Dihydrosphingomyelin (DSM) species often represent 5% to 20% of sphingolipids, but often are not identified or are under-reported. The human eye lens is the only tissue reported to date in which Dihydrosphingomyelin species are the most abundant class of phosphosphingolipid. The most common Dihydrosphingomyelin molecular species in most tissue types have a d18:0 Sphinganine Long-Chain Base. Those molecular species are given on this page. Dihydrosphingomyelin Long-Chain Bases (LCBs) other than d18:0, which are abundant in some samples, are given on other DSM pages listed on the Navigation Menu, and in the Master List.

*NOTE: APCI-MS gives fragments at [M+45-2H] in negative-ion mode, not [M+45], meaning that two hydrogens are lost from the formate adduct.
