Although the most common Sphingomyelin (SM) molecular species in most tissue types have a d18:1 Sphingenine Long-Chain Base (LCB), some  samples types contain a greater diversity of Long-Chain Bases.  The most common Sphingomyelin molecular species having several different Long-Chain Bases are given on this page and in the Master List.

*NOTE:  APCI-MS gives fragments at [M+45-2H] in negative-ion mode, not [M+45], meaning that two hydrogens are lost from the formate adduct.  This is perhaps due to formation of a cyclic structure in the adduct.
